Helping the elderly

The RMBI is continuing its work to ensure that older Freemasons and their female dependants receive the best possible care, suppert - and advice - wherever they live
Ecclesholme
Early February 2003 saw the start of major refurbishment works at Ecclesholme, the RMBI Home in Manchester. The contract represents an investment of well over 1.5 million in this Home, and is scheduled to take 18 months to complete.
The work will result in all residents' rooms being provided with an en suite toilet and basin, installation of a second lift, creation of a new third-floor lounge and a redesigned front entrance and a safe walking area for people with dementia.
When all work is completed, the Home will provide excellent facilities to meet the needs of residents.
Norfolk and West Lancashire
The RMBI is aware that in some areas of the country there may be a need to support Freemasons and their female dependants in non-Masonic Homes, since they do not have easy access to an RMBI Home.
It has been decided to test a plan designed to provide this support and a budget has been agreed.
This will enable a limited number of people (who must be linked to a Norfolk Lodge and living in the Norfolk area) to receive a contribution towards the cost of their fees, if their financial circumstances are such that they qualify.
A similar project has also started in West Lancashire, which complements the care offered at our existing Homes in this Province - The Tithebarn in Liverpool and Ecclesholme in Manchester.
Scarbrough Court
The search is ongoing for a new site to replace this Home, which is currently located in Cramlington, Northumberland.
As soon as a suitable site is secured and a new Home completed, residents will be relocated in modern accommodation, purpose-built to meet their needs.
The new Home will be located in the best possible position, not only to provide access to local amenities, but also to benefit an area where Masonic need is greatest.
Friends of the RMBI
The "Friends of the RMBI" continue to raise money for the Good Neighbour Fund, which is mainly used to fund holidays every year for needy annuitants and those in receipt of Masonic Relief Grants.
Please support the Friends of the RMBI by attending this year's Charity Ball, on Saturday 14th June 2003 at the Savoy, London, price 68 per ticket.
Alternatively, enter this year's Charity Draw or contribute to the Roll of Honour. Please contact the Donations Clerk at Head Office for more details (020 7596 2404).
Please Remember!
Copies of the RMBI promotional video are readily available, priced at 10 including VAT, postage and packing. If you would like to receive a copy, please send a cheque to the Communications Manager at Head Office.
