In addition, there is a Care Advice Team that helps prospective residents by applying for admission
and helping to fill in
benefit forms.
Mr Gray adds: 'The visiting teams are being expanded in line with demand. The RMBI
is also looking at setting up a national advice telephone line to provide support on a whole range of areas, such as benefits, accommodation and health matters:
Following a major review, the administration of RMBI annuitants was transferred to
the Grand Charity in April to
enable the streamlining of the administration of distributions.
A new system of Masonic Relief Grants has been
introduced and leaves the RM BI to concentrate on its primary objective of providing residential care (see MQ No 2, page 58).
Mr Gray explains: 'An appropriate dowry has been transferred to the Grand Charity, since £14.7 5m will be required over the next ten years to support
the annuitants.
However, we will continue
to support both existing annuitants and recipients
of the new Masonic
Relief Grants'.
The annual cost of running the Institution is £26m, and the RMBI is therefore always grateful for donations, legacies, payroll giving and gift aid.
Each resident gets bespoke attention. For example, it is standard practice for those requiring care in an RMBI home to be assessed by a Care Advice Visitor or a Home Manager, using a system that enables them to identify the special type of care needed.
The RMBI is very pro-active in promoting its services, and provides speakers for Lodges or other meetings, and can also supply display boards and promotional material for open days or other events.
In addition, the Institution provides other services, including home improvement loans.
The loan is repaid,
with interest, only when the property is sold or after the recipient has died.
Through the Good Neighbour Fund, holidays are also arranged for clients each summer in Eastbourne, Thorpe Bay, Bournemouth and Llandudno.
Also, thanks to the Royal Arch Holiday Fund and the generous sponsorship of Provinces and Friends, the RMBI has been organising for some years a winter holiday to Malta for about
30 older people.
Others, who fund themselves, often accompany them.
