Committee of General Purposes
Meetings in 2006
The Committee of General Purposes will
meet in 2006 on 28 March, 26 September
and 5 December.
Petitions for new Chapters
The Committee had received the following
petitions for new Chapters: for a new
Chapter to be attached to White Ensign
Lodge No. 9169, to be called White
Ensign Chapter No. 9169, to meet at
Moseley Masonic Hall, Kings Heath
(Worcestershire); for a new Chapter to
be attached to Upminster Daylight Lodge
No.9788, to be called Upminster Daylight
Chapter No. 9788, to meet at the Masonic
Hall, Upminster (Essex).
The petitions were granted.
Charter of Confirmation
The Committee had received a petition
for a Charter of Confirmation, the original
having been destroyed by fire, from
Uppingham-in-Rutland Chapter No. 9119
(Leicestershire and Rutland).
The petition was granted.
Centenary Charters
Memorials had been received from the
following Chapters, praying for Charters
authorising the members to wear the
Centenary Jewel: Sincerity No. 428
(Cheshire) with effect from 18 October
2005; St John’s No. 818 (Monmouthshire),
14 March 2006; Londonderry No. 2039
(Durham), 28 April 2006; Rahere No.
2546 (London), 12 June 2006; Playgoers
No. 2705 (London), 10 December 2005;
Seven Kings No. 2749 (Essex), 27 June
2006; Carthusian No. 2885 (London),
22 June 2005 (retrospective) and Orchestral
No. 3028 (London), 5 April 2006.
The Memorials were granted.
Bi-Centenary Charters
Memorials had been received from the
following Chapters, praying for Charters
authorising the members to wear the Bi-
Centenary Bar on the ribbon of the
Centenary Jewel: Prince Edwin’s No. 128
(East Lancashire), with effect from 13 May
2006; Mount Moriah No. 143 (London),
11 April 2006.
The Memorials were granted.
Transfers
The following Memorials for transfers
had been received: from Duchess of York
Chapter No. 2482 (East Lancashire), praying
that following the closure of Duchess of
York Lodge it be attached to Renaissance
Lodge No. 1219 (East Lancashire), and
be known as Renaissance Chapter No.
1219; from Field End Chapter No. 6924
(Middlesex) to be detached from Field End
Lodge and attached to Haste Hill Lodge
No. 7592 (Middlesex), and be known as
Haste Hill Chapter No. 7592.
From West Kent and Merchant Navy
Chapter No. 1297 (London) praying that
it be detached from West Kent Lodge and
attached to Merchant Navy Lodge No. 781
(London), and that subject to the permission
of the ME The First Grand Principal, it be
known as Merchant Navy and Maritima
Chapter No. 781.
The Committee recommendation that
the prayers of the Memorials be granted
(subject in the case of West Kent and
Merchant Navy Chapter to the permission
of the ME The First Grand Principal to the
adoption of a new name) was approved.
Amalgamations
The following Chapters have resolved to
surrender their Charters: Chapter of
Integrity No. 163, Lancastrians Chapter
No. 3853 and Chapter of Good Report No.
7370, in order to amalgamate with Duchess
of York Chapter No. 2482 (East Lancashire);
Benefactum Chapter No. 5231, in order
to amalgamate with All Saints Chapter
No. 1716 (London); Badge of Innocence
Chapter No. 8975, in order to amalgamate
with Chapter of Mutual Defence No.
6711 (Surrey).
The removal of the Chapters from the
register in order to effect the respective
amalgamations was approved.
Erasures
Reports had been received on ten Chapters:
Cosmopolitan Chapter No. 917 (London),
Prince of Wales Chapter No. 2520
(Northumberland), Commemoration
Chapter, No. 2663 (London), Wythenshawe
Chapter No. 2688 (Cheshire), George Green
Chapter No. 3510 (London), Marquis of
Titchfield Chapter No. 3550 (Nottingham),
Burton Court Chapter No. 3864 (London),
City Chapter No. 3999 (East Lancashire),
Haven Chapter No. 5710 (Cheshire) and
Teddington St Mary’s Chapter No. 7469
(Middlesex).
The erasure of the Chapters from the
register of Grand Chapter and the Charters
cancelled, was approved.
Charitable payments
In accordance with practice in recent years,
the Committee recommended that Gift Aid
payments be made to each of the four main
Masonic Charities and the Heritage and
Educational Trust of the London Grand
Rank Association of net sums for each
of the four Charities of £5,000 and the
Heritage and Educational Trust of £1,000.
A resolution to authorise the payments
was approved.
Future Convocations
Future Convocations will be held on
Thursday, 27 April 2006; Wednesday,
8 November 2006 and Thursday, 26
April 2007.
